Newly created post for an experienced and ambitious Events Professional with a substantial track record in events management, with excellent strategic, operational and leadership skills – a background in high level and prestigious hospitality events aligned to the achievement of an organisation’s objectives would be ideal.

Organisation & Context
The Events team at this large and unique London Body is responsible for delivering a busy programme of high-profile events each year, from lectures and receptions to bespoke dinners and large-scale State Banquets, in support of the organisation’s core objectives. The events take place at some of London’s most prestigious and historic banqueting venues, a number of which are owned by the organisation, and which also play host to special events for other external organisations.

Role
This is a new position – created to consolidate the professionalism of the Events team, it’s practice and offering and enhance it’s role in delivering on the objectives of the organisation. The Head of Event Strategy will work to bring both consistency of delivery (across teams and locations) and also bring strategic vision and input to ensure the events are meeting and delivering on the objectives of the organisation for now and into the future. You’ll lead on best practice and the sharing of information across the several event teams, facilitating the strategic coordination of events and the development of a consistent approach to the delivery of events across the Organisation. You will also deepen collaboration working with senior stakeholders within the organisation to ensure the events strategy and the events themselves align with and support the Organisation’s strategic objectives. The Head of Events Strategy’s role will be to establish and ensure the effective operation of the team, and the varied events they deliver through the year - this will include establishing improved career development, training and support for events staff. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Plan, build and manage the Events Department, enabling standardisation and development of the operational delivery of events across the organisation
  • Co-ordinate the exchange of information between event teams about developments affecting events and the sharing of best practice (including technology, diary co-ordination and management, guest lists and diversity)
  • Advise on and contribute to the co-ordination and effective planning and delivery of a progamme events and activities to support the Organisation’s strategic and political objectives (working closely with other departments including Innovation and Growth)
  • Identify best practice in procedures, developing and delivering events in line with departmental objectives and benchmarking
  • Provide opportunities for improved career development, training and support for events team members, including work experience, shadowing and mentoring across teams and venues

The post suits an ambitious person, with extensive experience of the management of events with diverse and often high level guests, who is able to exercise initiative, and work creatively with colleagues to take projects forward. The post-holder will work closely with senior internal stakeholders.  Specifically we are looking for someone with:

  • Proven record of planning and managing complex (hospitality-focussed) events including formulating event proposals, meeting budgets, commission event material, guest list research and provision and table planning
  • Significant experience of highly detailed event planning and delivery, including high level client liaison and identification of customer/stakeholder requirements advising on financial and operational issues
  • Experience of supporting and training staff in the planning and delivery of events
  • Strong leadership skills and a track record of engaging and working with senior colleagues and external partners, building trust and credibility
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of best practice in procedures,developing and delivering events that align with organisational objectives
  • Experience of evaluating events with a view to identifying areas of strength and weakness in the planning and delivery of events in order to make recommendations for improvement
  • A strategic thinker, with significant experience of balancing competing priorities while keeping sight of the big picture
