Job Description

Amazing Event Manager contract role working for a registered sports charity delivering a range of large scale sporting events and youth & community engagement programmes in London across the summer.


This is a 4 month Event Manager contract (reporting in to the CEO) starting end of March / early April 2018 that will need you to dive straight in, pick up the reins in terms of what’s already in place and then hit the ground running to roll out the delivery of several large-scale Youth Sporting Events and School & Community Competitions (across 20-30 different sports) including regional qualifying tournaments, one day competitions and hub events and culminating in  a 4 day London based sports competition & festival in London in the summer.

This is a predominantly delivery, event logistics & ops and venue liaison based contract as all venues and dates have been confirmed, all schools & young athletes / players are on board and many of the regional heats have been held throughout the year already so the role is really about final prep and event delivery of the remaining events & competitions and the high profile 4 day Youth Sports Tournament and Festival. Key responsibilities will include:-

  • Final planning and production of sporting events & competitions
  • Liaising with venues and ordering competition equipment
  • Event logistics for a variety of competitions and venues
  • Budget management
  • Producing health and safety documentation for events
  • Producing site & branding plans and event guides for each event.
  • Supervising volunteer workforce on site
  • Managing stakeholder hospitality at events
  • Coordinating and collating post-event feedback.
  • Supervision of one direct report

The role will involve some weekend work and one full week on-site for delivery of the summer finals competitions.


You’ll be a versatile Event Manager (good all-rounder) with experience of working on large scale sporting events and/or youth & community engagement programmes. You’ll have circa 5 years’ experience and the confidence and ability to hit the ground running to roll out delivery of several large-scale sporting events. Key skills needed include event planning & ops, project management, budget management, coordination of staff (volunteers, stewards, sports officials, sport venue grounds staff and all other support staff), H&S, security and crowd management, multi-stakeholder liaison (schools, teachers & sports coaches, sponsors & partners, equipment suppliers, venues, contractors, local councils, external stakeholders and all staff), set-up & de-rig, venue-side ops, on-site event management and post event reporting, evaluation and reconciliation.

From a personality point of view, you’ll need to be a confident and outgoing person - pro-active, can-do, hands on, approachable and easy to work – who is also a strong and effective communicator who can work well with a wide range of stakeholders from all walks of life and at all levels.

Experience of working on events with children and youths very advantageous.

Driving licence essential.

Strong H&S knowledge also essential (IOSH / NEBOSH quals not crucial but if you don’t have these then you must have a good all-round knowledge of H&S, insurance, security, crowd control etc.)

This is a fantastic contract for an Event Manager with a proven background of working on large scale sporting events and/or youth & community engagement programmes.
