In a nutshell, discrimination on the basis of age whether that's 16 or 60 will be illegal. And it's not to be taken lightly. In the US there was a 40% jump in employment tribunal claims when age discrimination legislation was introduced and in Ireland, age is now the basis of 19% of all employment cases. On the surface, the new law seems quite straightforward but there are a number of issues to consider in terms of recruitment, retention and training:
For a full briefing on the new legislation click through to www.agepositive.gov.uk Should I stay or should I go?According to our recent research, almost half of candidates who resign in the events, marketing and creative sectors, receive counter offers from their present employer to try and persuade them to stay. However, while it can be flattering to receive a counter offer, they often merely confuse an already stressful situation. For more advice on making the most of what YOU have to offer click through to www.regananddean.co.uk/guides.php The changing face of marketingAnyone who has watched an episode of Dragons Den will know that as well as a great idea, it's marketing that can make or break a new product or service. Today's consumer is a sophisticated animal who will research options, plan ahead and make more informed decisions than ever before. That's why marketing has to be much more about engaging the consumer getting them involved in the product has led to a whole new area of interactive and experiential branding. According to recent research by ID, an experiential marketing agency, 64% of consumers who had taken part in experiential marketing told someone else about it - it gives people a lot to talk about. And it's set to grow. We live in a world where consumers tend to screen out broadcast messages. Remember the scene in Minority Report where Tom Cruise walks into a Gap store to be welcomed by a screen character commenting on the fact that the trousers he had bought in blue last month were now available in brown? It's not that far off! The knock on effect of all this is that skill sets are evolving. Marketing, branding and advertising agencies now need traditional marketing skills combined with an appreciation of producing live events and those that have that mix are hot property.
