Head of Events career opportunity - bring your excellent team management, event management and strategic skills to this exciting Head of Events role – it offers a real career opportunity to make a difference, harnessing your strategic and commercial aptitudes to further develop the event offering of this prestigious Professional Society.

Professional Association for leading academics and professionals in this cutting-edge medical sector.  Their event programme is central to achieving the organisations objectives – supporting members, professional development, and the role of their profession in the progress and development of medicine and healthcare.

The Head of Events will be responsible for the successful delivery of the Society’s annual event calendar – managing a team of 2 - from their annual congress (1,000+ people) to regular conference events (100-200 people), and a calendar of scientific workshops, network events and dinners.  You’ll have close relationships with the Society Committees and stakeholders, and be involved at a strategic and commercial level developing the further success of the meetings function.  You’ll work closely with the CEO and the senior management team to really have an impact in the long term vision and success of the Event & Meetings provision.  Future activities include the UK hosting the International Congress for this sector – a major highlight for the organisation - which will be a real career highpoint for the team, and you would be playing a critical role in it’s success.    

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Line Management of Events team, and oversee all event logistics for delivery of full event calendar of varied events (mainly UK)
  • Delivery excellence - ensure high quality delivery of all events/meetings
  • Lead Meetings Strategy – develop and implement meetings strategy in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and committees
  • Lead growth in revenue – for example through the development of sponsorship and trade exhibition programmes
  • Provision of secretariat support to committees related to meetings
  • Work closely with Senior Management team to develop further and achieve Society’s aims

You’ll bring significant event management experience, including having led on events up to approx. 1,000 pax, and be able to comfortably manage yourself and the team to deliver a varied event calendar.  The events team have a close relationship with the committees and members, so you’ll enjoy working closely with a wide range of stakeholders, and ideally already have experience from within a membership based organisation.  We’re looking for someone with great interpersonal skills, a relationship builder who can work closely and supportively with members and committees. You’ll be customer focussed, with excellent attention to detail, and a good fit to the organisation – open, friendly, proactive and interested in supporting the organisation achieve it’s aims.  This role is also looking for someone who can maintain the excellent standards of event delivery, and develop the event offering further.

Key requirements:

  • Substantial experience within event logistics, including the organising of conferences ideally up to 1,000 pax
  • Line Management experience
  • Ideally experience of working as part of a management team, or strong interest to do so
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ideally experience within an association/membership organisation/learned bo
  • Experience of working with committees
  • Medical sector association / learned body experience desirable (not essential)
  • Ability to work at a strategic planning level
  • Experience of responding to invitations to tender, bidding and delivering events on behalf of clients
  • Strong project management experience with demonstrable abilities in building and maintaining healthy relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent written and presentation skills
  • Thoughtful and considerate approach
